Computer to Plate (CtP) technology offers several advantages over conventional platemaking.
CtP Platesetters, eliminate the need for film and related developer chemicals and equipment. Imaging directly to the plate, removes one generation from the printing process, avoiding potential losses in quality that may occur during film processing, including scratches in the film, and variations in the exposure and increases sharpness and detail.
Platesetters produce plates that are more consistent, in less time, and at a lower cost. CtP can also improve image-to-edge repeatability and registration compared to traditional methods, without the need for investment in a new press.
In CtP Platesetters, defects due to dust, scratches or other artifacts are minimized. The media is held in precise position during imaging, and does not rely on a separately-aligned pin grid for registration as with film. Additionally, many Platesetters have built-in punching systems, producing press-ready plate directly from the unit.
